We are using Webroot Advanced Email Encryption powered by Zix to ensure secure email exchanges. Email is an important channel of communication for the exchange of sensitive information and with the rise of spam and phishing attacks in the last couple of years, we went ahead with the software to create a secure channel of communication.
  • Protection from phishing attacks
  • Retracting of the messages
  • Timely response by customer support team
  • The platform could be made a bit more self serve instead of depending on support for modifications
  • Platform speed
  • The overall UI/UX could be more user friendly
Webroot Advanced Email Encryption powered by Zix is best suited for situations where a person or an organization looking to safeguard their email communication channel from phishing and spam attacks that can severely damage the organization's reputation. The encryption, filtering, retraction, etc can really help in building a great VAPT score for the organization.

It is an overall pretty good product, just like the rest of the products Webroot offers. Use once in a while for sending emails but primarily set it up for clients to use, especially for the ones that need encryption when they send emails with confidential information. It is mainly used by clients that need it for HIPPA compliance.
  • Easy to use.
  • Nice interface.
  • No major issues.
  • Support could be better.
It is a good option for clients that need email encryption for compliance reasons. The clients we have that use the Webroot Advanced Email Encryption need it for HIPAA compliance. I am sure there are other compliance needs that this would also work well for. It is not really suitable for individual home users.

We use Zix as our mobile email app for our entire organization, as well as for ad hoc encryption needs. It helps solve our issue on dealing with BYOD. In addition, it provides us with means to send secure messages when necessary to our partners, with minimal impact to them. Zix is one of the easiest solutions we found while being attractively priced.
  • Zix mobile app. Easy to use. Anyone can use it with minimal if any, training.
  • The encryption registration for recipients is as painless as it gets. Simple, effective.
  • The app is easy to configure, and compatible with all devices. This made for quick deployment.
  • Customer support is a little hard to use. However, infrequently needed.
  • The app has limitations as you can only view one mailbox, calendar account. You can't check other mailboxes or calendars.
  • Lots of service windows, though few with actual outages. However, in our industry, we treat each update as a potential for an outage, and have to put in certain measures.
The mobile app is the best - easy to set up, quick to deploy, works well and requires very little in terms of support or training. So to need an app that is quick to deploy and easy to use, it is well suited.

We use Zix everyday and throughout our organization. We are a Title Escrow Service and heavily communicate detailed non-public financial information with real estate buyers, sellers, agents, and lenders. We looked at countless solutions which were not able to serve our needs. Many were not very useable by customers. Most were too cumbersome for our agents to manage complex communication threads. Zix is also used by our largest clients, making even greater usability. It has been performing very well for several years
  • Great usability for outside users who may need heavy access for several weeks and almost never again.
  • Streamlined operation for our agents, keeping communication threads organized (actually a function of our mail app - it is just that Zix actually allows this - it was a deal breaker with countless others)
  • Of course, bullet proof and highly recognized encryption. (duh!)
  • Lovely people at Zix supporting us!
  • Excellent reliability and availability
  • Responsive to customer input on making things even better
  • We reported a major issue with accessing documents on a smart phone. The display hides the documents from the recipient, causing much confusion. I haven't heard any progress on improvement, and am quite surprised that this hasn't been addressed.
  • This is doing better now, far less complaints
  • I have never received free pizza from Zix. We always appreciate pizza.
  • Still no pizza.
It has almost perfectly met our needs. A title company with 25 users that requires encrypted communication countless times daily. I am not sure that it would work as well for a small 2 user setup due to cost; I haven't checked that. I work with a small dental office that fits that scenario. There are many HIPAA solutions that match their use case, however.

Still agree with what i wrote a while back on this.

We use Zix across our entire organization. As a financial institution, it is imperative that we protect data on every level to prevent accidental or unauthorized exposure of non public personal information of customer data. Based on policies, we can ensure that we are encrypting sensitive data.
  • You wouldn't think you would need to do this, but Zix has a profanity filter that ensures that our staff are communicating professionally every time.
  • Zix policies can stop an employee from accidently sending a social security number or account number through email.
  • We have some members that originate the email to us through Zix so that they can send sensitive information as attachments or in the body of the email.
  • There are so many functions available, I'm not sure if the deficiencies we see are actually with Zix or our lack of knowledge. So this in itself is a weakness.
  • Zix has had a lot of issues recently with outages. They've been remedied quickly, but there have been quite a few.
Zix is used in the industry quite a bit which makes for an easy conversation between Zix users without having to go back and forth through an encrypted site to read an email that you have received. The price point for Zix is excellent as well, which I didn't expect given that it was such a well known product. I expected it to be for mega-banks and credit unions but it works quite well for our small organization and is affordable.

Our office starting use Zix Encrypt and have now added a Zix add-on that protects against email threats in all departments. The encrypt product works so well we don't even know it is being used. In the past we used Symantec Cloud (used to be Message Labs) but have made the switch to Zix and have not regretted it at all. Threat protection is a huge risk and almost half of our emails coming in to our domain either contain viruses or are listed as Spam.
  • The hospital we work with also uses Zix and being able to email back and forth with encryption without having to login to a separate portal saves time.
  • The amount of emails that Zix protects from threatening viruses is saving us time.
  • Zix Support is wonderful and their deployment teams work really hard to get you up and running really fast.
  • There online portal is a bit outdated.
The little support I have needed has been great. Their sales team is not overwhelming trying to sell add on's. In fact we did not even know they had a product to protect email threats when we went live with Zix Encrypt.

We utilize a ZixGateway virtual appliance to handle all of our email encryption services for the entire agency. It is also utilized to provide email encryption services for a smaller agency that contracts IT support through our agency. Since we deal with sensitive information that is shared across a number of healthcare service providers, Zix was a good choice for us, since it was already in use at many of those agencies as well. It's been very reliable with very little maintenance needed to keep it working optimally.
  • ZixGateway allows us to inspect and auto-encrypt emails even if the sender does not specify whether the email should be encrypted. This is important to us as it helps reduce the chance of data be sent in an insecure fashion, whether it's intentional or not.
  • Zix support has been very helpful in the few instances where they needed to be engaged to resolve issues.
  • Having the ZixGateway virtual appliance makes it easy to manage and has been very reliable for the many years we've been using it. Very little maintenance is needed.
  • Cost is a big con for Zix. I believe it's expensive for what it does, however, seamless functionality with existing customers was a big selling point for us.
Zix is great choice if you're in the healthcare services world. There are a lot of providers we work with that use it so it was an easy decision for us. The cost seems a bit higher than some other solutions and for small agencies this may be big deal.

We use ZixGateway to protect sensitive information in our outbound email communications.
  • The biggest benefit of ZIxGateway is the transparent encryption between our users and other Zix customers. In 12 months nearly 70% of our encrypted messages have been with other Zix customers and get delivered to the user's inbox without any extra effort for the users.
  • Zix support has been phenomenal! The few times I have had to contact them I was in direct contact with a technician who could actually fix my problem and didn't have to wait for a call back or sit in a phone queue.
  • The web configuration interface is a bit confusing and mail rules can be a bit tricky to configure until you get the hang of them, but any questions I have had are always well explained by Zix support staff.
This product works well for us as many of the organizations our users communicate with are also Zix customers.

It is being used by the whole organization for encrypted email. We also utilize the DLP for troubleshooting purposes mainly. You can use it to quarantine messages and release them upon discretion, but we're a small shop and that was more overhead than we wanted. We set the gateway up with policies. It's set it and forget 90% of the time.
  • Automatic Encryption
  • Notification of Alerts
  • Support
  • Zix Portal Management
It's great because it is set it and forget it. We spent 2-4 weeks monitoring everything, but once it was in a happy place, it just worked. We get emails daily showing the mail log so we can periodically check and make sure it is still working as expected. It is well suited for any size organization - maybe more so with ones that have to communicate with sensitive data. Either way, security is top priority for all businesses and email encryption is included in that.

We currently use Zix for all of or employees. We send out data that needs to be secured a good bit and Zix by far was the easiest way to get this done. End users get the ability to send encrypted or unencrypted using the ZixSelect buttons. My favorite feature is if an attachment has any specific data deemed sensitive (by your preset input) the attachment will automatically encrypt. This allows full confidence in attachments being sent correctly.
  • Love the ZixSelect buttons for Outlook. Its a plugin you install that gives users the ability to send email encrypted or unencrypted.
  • Automatically sends attachments encrypted using predetermined rules.
  • Improve on the Zix portal experience for the email receiver.
Best suited for documents that must be safely sent. The entire encryption is unbelievably simple. No issues with our end users.

We use/implemented Zix for the purpose protecting the confidential information of our customers. Our industry is highly regulated and requires the protection of the information we obtain and distribute. The "read receipt" notification is incredibly helpful in tracking who has (or has not) read their email. For the most part, Zix is very user-friendly.
  • Encryption
  • Automatic read receipts
  • Tracking
  • Retraction of erroneous emails
Automatic read receipts are excellent for tracking whether or not the message has been read.

We started off using Zix as standalone clients for certain departments like execs and HR. We moved to a Zix Gateway solution so that any email that matches certain lexicons will be flagged to be encrypted as they're going out. HR still uses the client so they can encrypt internal emails if needed. The main issue we've encountered really isn't our issue, it's more out of our control. Outside users who receive Zix encrypted emails are leery to log in and create a Zix login as they may not be familiar with it. Also, encrypted emails are only kept for 30 days and are deleted afterward and if users haven't checked it by then they will not know what the email was about.
  • Zix comes preset with certain conditions/lexicons that capture most "private" info like SSNs, credit card numbers, medical records, etc. They can be customized further and also use "definitions" similar to antivirus software that can be updated. It can also be set to read a certain word or phrase in the subject or body that will automatically encrypt an outgoing email. Once set up, it is transparent.
  • Outside users who send Zix encrypted emails to us automatically will get unencrypted at our gateway so there's nothing our internal end users need to do. It is transparent bi-directionally.
  • Without the need for a Zix client to be installed, there's less "PC touching" and the benefits of encrypting email are corporate-wide. Licensing becomes easier as there's no need to re-license hundreds of individual clients, just the gateway.
  • The initial setup may be a bit tricky for companies that are not well-versed in the way internet-routed email works.
  • A way to automatically, NOT automatically encrypt an email if you didn't want to. The way to do this is a bit cumbersome at the moment.
  • Reporting is a bit kludgy. If there was a dashboard to be able to easily pluck out individual emails that would be a nice feature. Of course, Zix may have this already but I'm not aware if it was installed or if it's an add-on.
ZIx is especially useful in commerce and healthcare where a lot of sensitive information, like credit cards, social security numbers, and medical records, are sent via email. It wouldn't be suitable for small business as the complexity and the cost would outweigh the benefits...in which case the client install is more appropriate if email encryption is desired.
